The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, witnessed the swearing-in of Justice Professor Lillian Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza, the new Justice of the Court of  Appeal of Seychelles,  during a swearing-in ceremony held at State House yesterday morning. 

Justice Professor Lillian Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza has been appointed as Justice of the Court of Appeal of Seychelles by President Faure upon recommendations made by the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA) pursuant with Article 123 of the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles. During the ceremony, the new Justice of Appeal took two oaths; The Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution and The Judicial Oath.

Justice Professor Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza holds a Ph.D in Law from the University of Copenhagen and was the first African woman to graduate with a Ph.D in Law.  She is a Justice of the Uganda Supreme Court, the highest court in the country. The Justice Professor joined the Judiciary in July 2013 as Justice of the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court in Uganda, before her appointment in Seychelles. She is also a highly experienced legal scholar in judicial and legal matters.

The ceremony at State House was also attended by the Vice President, Mr Vincent Meriton, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Prea, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Francis Macgregor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mathilda Twomey, the Attorney General, Mr Frank Ally, Honorable Judges, Members of the Constitutional Appointments Authority and other Distinguished Guests.
