President Faure invited to attend high-level international events

President Danny Faure will be attending a series of exclusive high-level international events set to bring new development opportunities to Seychelles, starting with the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7).

Being held from 28 August through to 30 August 2019 in Yokohama, Japan under the theme ‘Africa and Yokohama, Sharing Passion for the Future’, TICAD is the largest international conference held in Japan. Led by the Japanese government and co-sponsored by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Union Commission and the World Bank, TICAD will see the participation of more than 4500 heads of state and government and decision-makers from all sectors of society.

Following TICAD 7, President Faure will deliver the Keynote Address at the African Sovereign Wealth and Pension Fund Leaders’ Summit in Cape Town on 3 September. The summit is a unique invitation-only event to foster and facilitate inbound investment within the continent, and will allow Seychelles to access vetted co-investment opportunities and partners.

From 4 September through to 6 September, President Faure has been invited to attend the World Economic Forum on Africa, also being held in Cape Town. Under the theme, ‘Shaping Inclusive Growth and Shared Futures in the Fourth Industrial Revolution’, the meeting will address regional strategic priorities including innovation, sustainable development, growth and stability.

The President will proceed to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland to deliver the Keynote Address at the Ninth Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning, co-hosted by The Commonwealth of Learning and The Open University during 9 to 12 September. An initiative of the Commonwealth Heads of Government, the event will gather all Ministers of Education from across the Commonwealth and is designed to promote the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies.

The President will leave the country on 26 August 2019 and will return to office on 14 September 2019, following three days of annual leave.
