New Judge of the Court of Appeal of Seychelles Appointed

The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, witnessed the swearing in of Judge Prith Viraj Fekna who has been appointed as Justice of the Court of Appeal of Seychelles during a swearing-in ceremony held at State House this morning.

President Faure has appointed Judge Fekna upon recommendations made by the Constitutional Appointments Authority pursuant with Article 123 of the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles. During the ceremony, Judge Fekna took two oaths; the Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution and the Judicial Oath.

Judge Fekna holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Masters in Laws in Legislative Drafting. He has held various posts in the Mauritian Judiciary including President of the Fair Rent Tribunal and President of the Industrial Court. Judge Fekna was also a part-time lecturer for the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies of Mauritius. In 2011 he was elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court, until his appointment as Justice of Appeal.

Also present at State House for the ceremony, was the Vice President, Mr Vincent Mériton, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Francis Macgregor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mathilda Twomey, the Attorney General, Mr Frank Ally, the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Hon. Charles De Commarmond, Secretaries of State, Judges, Members of the Constitutional Appointments Authority and other distinguished guests.
