President Faure receives delegation from British Commonwealth Parliamentary Association

The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, met a delegation from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in the United Kingdom, this morning at State House.

Headed by the Rt Honourable Baroness Blackstone, the delegation is in Seychelles to foster greater cooperation on good governance and democracy, as well as share with fellow Commonwealth parliamentarians here in Seychelles, common challenges being faced.  Rt Honourable Baroness Blackstone was accompanied by a representative from the Scottish National Party, Dr Lisa Cameron MP, Labour in the UK, Mrs Kerry Mccarthy MP, and Programme Officer from the CPA UK Secretariat, Ms Fleur Ten Hacken.

President Faure welcomed the delegation to Seychelles and noted that Seychelles remains committed to cementing the excellent bond that Seychelles and the CPA share on a bilateral and multilateral level. He expressed his hope to see renewed efforts to elevate the cooperation to new heights following their visit.

During the meeting, some of the topics discussed included the role of the President of Seychelles as Head of State whilst also remaining above politics, engaged in improving the quality of life for all citizens. The youth national assembly and gender parity in the Cabinet was also discussed.

The delegation and the President also discussed Seychelles’ association with the Commonwealth and the shared values and principles that it upholds in the areas of democracy, human rights and good governance, and the continued work therein.

During their official visit to Seychelles, the delegation is holding meetings with the Deputy Speaker of the Seychelles National Assembly, Hon Ahmed Afif, Leader of the Opposition, Hon Wavel Ramkalawan, some members of the Parliament, as well as members of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Also present at the meeting at State House was the British High Commissioner, H.E. Caron Rohsler, Clerk to the National Assembly, Ms Jutta Alexis, Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Tania Isaac and PR, Communications and Protocol Manager at the National Assembly, Ms Alexandria Faure.
