President Faure receives Seychellois climbers following successful climb to Mount Everest Base Camp

President Danny Faure met with Seychellois climbers, Mr Norman de Silva, and his daughter, Ms Cheyenne de Silva, following their successful climb to the Mount Everest Base Camp at State House this morning.

The President congratulated the two Seychellois climbers for their courage to take on such a challenging journey and for raising the Seychelles Flag in such a unique location.

“Thank you for being an inspiration to other Seychellois, especially the young people, and for challenging yourself beyond your limits whilst also making your country proud. We are happy for what you have achieved and hope that others are inspired by your actions and challenge themselves beyond their potential,” said President Faure.

Mr de Silva is the second Seychellois to reach Mount Everest Base Camp and his daughter Cheyenne, 21 years old, is the first Seychellois woman, to journey 5364 metres above sea level to reach the Mount Everest Base Camp.

The meeting was an opportunity for Mr De Silva and his daughter to share with the President their amazing journey, preparations, the challenges and the life changing experiences they encountered during their 13 day climb. The duo reached base camp on 31 May 2018 and expressed their happiness to have reached their goal.

Mr de Silva and Cheyenne also presented President Faure with a souvenir frame of the actual Seychelles Flag they took with them on their journey up to Mount Everest Base Camp.

The first Seychellois to reach Mount Everest Base Camp was Mr Allen Bonnelame in 2012.
