The new ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Kim Moon-hwan, presented his credentials to President James Michel at State House today in a ceremony attended by the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maurice Loustau Lalanne and the President’s Diplomatic Advisor, Ambassador Callixte D’Offay.
President Michel congratulated the new Ambassador and said that his accreditation will serve as another platform to give new momentum to the already excellent relations between the two countries.
During their meeting they discussed issues of common interest such as the importance of the resources of the oceans, climate change and the green economy. President Michel and Ambassador Moon-hwan also talked about areas of possible cooperation, such as renewable energy, fisheries, tourism, diversifying the economic cooperation among others.
After the accreditation ceremony Ambassador Moon-hwan told the national media that both the President and him agreed to strengthen the bilateral relations and that he will concentrate on promoting tourism during his tenure in office.
“Both countries share many things in common, for example a mature democracy and an open market economy. First of all, my highlight will be on the tourism sector... about one thousand five hundred Korean tourists are coming to Seychelles this year. This is a big achievement given the far distance and then I think the trend will continue in the years to come. Seychelles is of course a small island country, but many Korean people are becoming more and more aware of the beauty and the treasure of this island. Not only for its seaside but also for its diverse culture. So, that will be one of my priority,” said Ambassador Moon-hwan.
Ambassador Kim Moon-hwan is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
