The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Seychelles, H.E. Shabbir Chowdhury has today bid farewell President James Michel in a meeting held at State House, following a ten months tenure in office. The farewell call was attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Mr. Joel Morgan and the President’s Diplomatic Advisor, Ambassador Callixte D’Offay.
President James Michel commended High Commissioner Chowdhury for his efforts in bringing Seychelles and Bangladesh closer together and wished him all the best in his new posting. It was noted that the two countries need to work together in order to achieve more progress at bilateral level.
During the meeting, the President and High Commissioner Chowdhury discussed various issues of mutual interest such as the issues faced by Small Island Developing States such as climate change. They also discussed the Blue Economy Concept, and agreed that there is great potential for Seychelles and Bangladesh to work together in this area of economic cooperation.
Speaking to the local press after the meeting, High Commissioner Chowdhury said that after the presentation of his credentials last year, bilateral relations between Seychelles and Bangladesh have developed at various levels in the business sector and civil service.
“Both countries at various levels in the business sector and civil service have got chance to know each other and in fact they also attended a number of meetings, whereby Seychellois delegation went to Bangladesh to attend an important meeting on the Blue Economy… Likewise, a Bangladeshi delegation had two or three visits in Seychelles, again on Blue Economy, tourism etc. Bangladeshi investors are also looking forward to initiate trade, we already had some trade but, we look forward to enhancing it. I already had discussions with some Bangladeshi businessmen and they are willing to increase their exports in Seychelles,” concluded the Bangladeshi High Commissioner.
