President James Michel met with the Father Gustave Lafortune, who celebrated 50 years in the priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church in Seychelles last weekend.
President Michel congratulated Father Lafortune on his Golden Jubilee and expressed regret that he could not attend the special mass which was held in his honour last Sunday, as a state visit had taken place on this day, where the President was the host.
" Thank you for all the years of service you have dedicated to the people of Seychelles, to the Roman Catholic Church and to your country. I wish you good health and every success in the years to come, " said President Michel during the meeting.
Father Lafortune thanked the President for his personal support and good wishes, and added that he would not retire from the priesthood and would continue to serve his parish for as long as he is able to.
Ordained in 1963, Father Gustave Lafortune of the Roman Catholic Church celebrated 50 years of priesthood on Sunday June 30 in a special mass at the St. Andrew’s Church, Cascade where he is the parish priest, which is also the district where he grew up.
