President James Michel met with the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mr. David Pierre, this morning at State House, in line with their agreement to meet once a month to discuss national issues. To note, this is their first meeting for this year.
Mr. Pierre has expressed his concern to the President on various issues that he believes should be looked at closely such as the Health systems, the police clearance procedure, whereby he feels that the youths are being affected by the way such procedure is being undertaken , the economy and service delivery in government amongst others.
President Michel and Mr Pierre also spoke about the special National Assembly sitting to coincide with Commonwealth Day whereby the National Assembly adopted the Commonwealth Charter, which brings together the values and aspiration that unite the Commonwealth. They further exchanged views on the economy in general and Mr. Pierre suggested that now that the economy is doing well, the time is right for a salary increase nationally. On the same note, he extended his support to the President for the blue economy concept and how to involve more Seychellois in the fishing industry so that it brings benefit for Seychelles.
The Leader of the Opposition concluded the meeting by briefing the President on the recommendations made based on the first report of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) on the 2009 and 2010 reports of the Auditor General and tabled before the National Assembly.
