Mr. January Msoffe has been sworn into office as Justice of the Court of Appeal in a ceremony at State House this morning which was presided by the President James Michel. Justice Msoffe will be a non-resident judge for a period of five years.
Also present at the ceremony were the Vice-President, Mr Danny Faure, the President of the Court of Appeal, Mr Francis MacGregor, the Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice D Karunakaran, the judges of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal as well as members of the Constitutional Appointments Authority.
Mr. Msoffe was formerly Justice of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania, having been appointed to the post in 2004. Prior to this post, he was appointed to Judge of the High Court of Tanzania in 1993 and Judge in Charge of the Dodoma High Court in Tanzania in 1997.
Justice Msoffe is a Tanzanian national and has a Bachelor of Law (Hons) degree from the University of Dar es Salaam. Following graduation he was a Resident Magistrate (1973-1977) and then a Senior Magistrate in Tanzania(1981-85). From January to September 1985, Mr Msoffe was seconded to Seychelles as a Senior Magistrate.
