June 25, 2010 -- President James Michel has hosted a farewell reception in honour of Vice President Joseph Belmont upon his retirement this month.
"We have had the privilege to work alongside a great man like Joseph Belmont. Joe is a man of great character. Abraham Lincoln once said "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you wish to test a man's character, give him power". For those who have worked closely with Joe, you will agree that in his powerful seat as Vice President, Joe has always been a humble and hard working man," said President Michel.
President Michel said that he has accepted the Vice-President's retirement with much regret, sadness and heartfelt appreciation for his service to the Government and people of Seychelles.
" Regret and sadness, because you have been a faithful and loyal friend and colleague who has shared with me good times as well as the burden of State affairs over many years. I and your colleagues in Government shall miss you."
The President expressed his thanks and gratitude to Vice-President Belmont for the many years of devoted service, commitment and dedication to the country.Â
"You have a lot more to contribute to Seychelles and to our people. I know, in this regard, that you will continue to make important contributions to Seychelles' development. I also know that I can count on your support in whatever you undertake and I wish to assure you of mine, as well. I wish you a happy and fruitful retirement and the best of luck in your future endeavours."
