“Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing”
The 2025 World Social Work Day emphasizes the importance of caring and respect across generations to build strong societies, sustain the environment, and share wisdom for a better future.
The chosen theme embodies religion, social values, norms, and practices through philanthropic and charitable work that have transcended generations of cultures, and over time has found its grounding in social science.
This year’s Social Work Day, celebrated on 18th March 2025, is the most important day of the year, bringing social workers worldwide together to celebrate the achievements of the profession. It is an opportune day for social workers to raise more awareness of their contributions towards individuals, families, and the wider society.
Today, we show our gratitude to all social workers for their commitment to bringing about positive social change, helping individuals of all ages thrive, and being advocates for those who have lost their voice. Social workers play a prominent role in improving the lives of those who need it most. We say a big thank you to all who remain positive and steadfast in the profession.
Seychelles, being open to the world, has undeniably not been spared from negative influences affecting our social fabric. Now, more than ever before, we need individuals like you who are committed to making a difference in the lives of people within our communities.
I recognize your hard work and the challenges our society faces. I call on all sectors of society to play a more significant role in strengthening intergenerational solidarity, as our society depends on positive role models for our families and children. We need to ensure Seychelles continues to build a social work and social development agenda for the upcoming decade, as our country is confronted with modern challenges, to ensure that humanity can thrive despite the difficult times.
The Government of Seychelles, through the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs, will continue to listen to the needs of social workers and consider policies to incentivize them, so they remain in this line of work and continue to attract new talents into this great and noble profession.
As the country continues to undertake bold and modern initiatives to tackle the myriad social issues, I urge social workers to continue being dynamic agents of change in this process. You are the beacon of hope to many during dark and tumultuous times. Each positive contribution you make, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, is appreciated and valorized.
On this very important day, Seychelles celebrates your profession.
I wish all social workers, past and present, a Happy Social Workers’ Day.
