Eid-ul-Fitr Message 2022 from President Wavel Ramkalawan
02 May 2022 | Religion
As Muslims around the world mark the end of Ramadan this year, I extend my congratulations and festive greetings to Seychellois Muslims both here and abroad.
I salute the Muslims who today celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr at the end of a month of rigorous fasting. Ramadan is a time for cleansing oneself of all sins and negative traits. It is a time for seeking forgiveness from neighbours and friends one may have offended and more importantly a time for renewal and commitment to become a better citizen.
For the past two years, because of COVID-19 restrictions, Muslims have had to forego the joy of assembling in prayer altogether in a single open-air location as per their tradition. However today, albeit in keeping with approved guidelines from the public health authority, Muslims were able to gather this morning in four locations on Mahé, apart from Praslin and La Digue.
I shall conclude with the traditional greeting of Muslims on this occasion – Eid Mubarak! Taqabbalallahu Minna Wa Minkum (May Allah accept good deeds from us and from you.)
