The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, visited the Seychelles Judiciary Branch at the Palais de Justice, île du Port this morning. The President was welcome by the President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Justice Francis Macgregor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Dr Mathilda Twomey, and Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mrs Juliana Esticot.
The visit began with a tour of the premises starting with President of the Court of Appeal's chambers and Court of Appeal registry. The delegation then proceeded to the Chief Justice’s secretariat for a tour of the Chief Justice's chambers and courtroom followed by a briefing with the all Justices, Judges and Magistrates. The meeting was an opportunity for them to brief the President on pertinent challenges such as the lack of financial autonomy, salary structure disparities, and cybersecurity, and to discuss possible solutions together.
Following the meeting, the tour continued to other key departments and sections so that the President could have a full overview of the full operations of the various sections of the Judiciary. Other locations visited included the Holding cells, the Criminal Division, the Civil and Commercial Registry, the office of Court Reporters, Criminal Registry, Monitoring and IT room, Finance section, Court Interpreters Section, Procurement, Human Resources and the Registrar’s Office.
During his tour the President had the opportunity to meet the staff at their respective stations where they briefed him on their daily activities and he had the chance to hear their concerns. The President thanked the staff for their honesty and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a conducive work environment for all workers. He also reassured them along with management, there would be work on solutions.
At the end of the tour, a meeting chaired by the President was held in the Judges Lounge with the senior management team. The President conveyed his appreciation to all the staff of the Judiciary for the good work that they are doing and commended them for their devotion. “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you all for the excellent work that you are doing despite the challenges, continue to work for your families, for justice and most of all for our Seychelles” said President Faure.
